Gmail IMAP won’t log in

I have IMAP set up between my work email and Gmail, and I use Thunderbird as my desktop email client.  It is easier to organize all the email I get for work with Gmail, but I like don’t want to respond to my email with a Gmail addy - thus the IMAP setup with T-bird.

This system works well for me, except that every once in awhile when I am in Thunderbird, I can’t download email.  When I try to log in to my Gmail IMAP account, it fails and Tbird keeps prompting me to log in over and over.  I go out to Gmail and try to log in - sometimes it works, sometimes the log fails after a time out.

I asked some other geeky individuals what they thought, and,  well, I got the impression that they though that my email set up was just weird and I probably screwed something up.  Today, I finally took the time to do a thorough search of Gmail’s Help Center and I’ve been redeemed!  My solution to Gmail IMAP not working:  Clear the CAPTCHA.

I’m having trouble logging in to Gmail with my username and password - Help Center
