Aquarium Algae Counter-Attack

I went looking for an algae eater for my aquarium at the pet store today, but foolishly did not do any research before making my purchase. I expected to find smaller, gold algae eaters at the pet store but they only had 3″ Plecos, which grow to be 18″ long. I told the pet store employee that I would never keep a fish that large and she insisted that the fish would not grow that long in one year, and to just call them to adopt the fish out for me when it was getting to be too large.

I should have just said no and walked away. But the brown algae is taking over our aquarium and I guess I so wanted a solution that I decided to just go ahead and buy the Pleco algae eater.
