Palm: Cha-cha-cha-changes
I really tried to adapt to The Dark Side (Win Mobile) but either the Pocket PC versions of software I use on a Palm didn’t exist or had fewer features. And then there was all the diddling I had to do with handheld to get power management under control, and the way Win Mobile left applications running in the background, and how I would close some apps but find that they were still open. Oh, yay.

Perhaps with so many apps going online, I’ll be able to migrate over to a SmartPhone running Win Mobile. Or maybe Blackberry (but I doubt it). I really question the feasibility of the Palm business structure and it sounds like developing for their outdated OS is a hassle. I think Palm is out of touch with consumers who use mobile computing and since I should probably pick up a SmartPhone by summer, and I don’t know that I would go with a Palm OS.
These are my thoughts after reading Palm closing retail stores, paying out Treo owners from CNet.

I purchased a Treo 700 about a year ago and have been pretty pleased with the device. I mainly use it for calls and the Outlook synchronization capability – very nice. It is very useful to help me monitor my website from anywhere, although this could be improved. The customer service has been excellent to help with functionality and set up. I’ve had to get two new units, although I think one issue was just a bad battery, but they wanted to send me a new phone anyway. The exchange process worked well. I haven’t used a black berry or other device, so I don’t have those things to compare to, but I wish the screen was bigger, and other functionality was easier. Compared to what I see other companies coming out with, Palm will have to come out with a great device in a year or so when I start to shop around, it seems the 700 is becoming obsolete in many ways. The big complaint I have is the monthly bill. Treo and Verizon should seek ways to manage data usage better to keep the cost down. I have configured it working with customer service and that helps but is not enough.
