Outlook: Large Fonts in Outlook when Replying or New Message

I use dual monitors with my laptop and was trying out a new monitor this a.m. When I went back to my old monitor, I was unpleasantly surprised to find that the fonts in Outlook for composing new messages or messages I was replying to was HUGE. The font said it was at 11 point but it looked more like 40 point. Then I was having trouble with images being sized really huge in Snag-It graphics software; when I would zoom out, the zoom would automatically scale back up. It was truly an “oh sh*t” moment.

I Googled ‘outlook email fonts large’ and found the solution right away (whew!): Outlook: Large Fonts in Outlook when Replying or New Message.

As for my images automatically zooming in, it’s not happening any more so I can only assume it had to do with those images being used in a Word document although I was attempting to edit them with Snag-It. I don’t really care why this is now working, I just care that it IS working!

  1. You made my day - simple solution to a ’stupid’ problem that fell thru the cracks at Microsoft. Microsoft does not even have any mention, let alone solution, of this problem in their FAQs.

  2. Happy to help with the dreaded large fonts in Outlook problem! I have read about giant fonts showing up in Outlook in quite a few places, so I would think someone at Microsoft is aware that this can happen. Hmmmm, I would think that this has happened to at least one person who works for Microsoft. Oh well! >>shrug

  3. I have been hunting around the ‘net looking for a solution to the “images too large in outlook” problem. I solved the problem myself just now, and am posting it here in case anyone stumbles on this post during their googling: I had recently saved a document in Microsoft Word as a web page, and modified the DPI of the exported images (from the Save As dialog box, choose Tools…Web Options). Reset the dots per inch (DPI) to 96dpi (even if it already appears to be set as that). Then restart Outlook. It fixed it on my machine (I had changed the exported DPI to 72).

    Hope that helps someone!

    @everyone above

    Thank you! thank you , thank you, thank you!

    I do a lot of testing of email designs, and have had this problem come up. I ran into this problem and been trying to find a solution to if for about 2 weeks. I’d even reinstalled Outlook without any luck.

    Your solution fixed it right up.

  5. I am a help desk student employee at a University and I have ran into this issue with 2 faculty members without solution. They reply to a message and their signature is inserted automatically and it is size 14 font but appears to be 4-5 times bigger than that. Any solutions? :(
