Overwintering Geraniums

It has been a long couple of weeks, with a big additional project for work to add to the usual busy-ness around here. I finished the project Wednesday night and I just spent the last 4 hours getting my financial accounts updated in Quicken and paying bills, and setting some priorities.

In my stack of bills, I had a special offer from Garden Gate magazine to get a year of the magazine for $6 - pretty hard to pass up. Before mailing the check I went to the Garden Gate website to see if they offered an online version of their magazine as I really do not need yet another paper publication around here. Nope, no online magazine but they had some online content from past magazines, one being a video on how to overwinter geraniums.

Here I am a Master Gardener and I had no idea that this was how one overwinters geraniums. I bought some gorgeous geraniums last spring, some with multi-colored foliage and I have been considering trying to propagate them with cuttings because I thought they would be a lost cause once we get a hard frost. But I really do not feel like messing around with propagation. Instead, I will over-winter my geraniums using the easy method Garden Gate teaches.

  1. Good luck with this. I used to do this in Virginia and it really does work.
